How the Coronavirus pandemic became Florida's perfect storm: Florida’s mishandling of the Coronavirus might mean Minnesota snowbirds choose to winter in...Minnesota.

Florida has become the new epicenter of the Coronavirus in the U.S. and, apparently, in the world. Many senior Minnesotans split their years: Florida in the winter, home in the summer.  Except Minnesota is often no longer home. Florida is one of only nine states without an income tax, so many snow birds stay there longer than six months to become, officially, Floridians. Financially, the incentive to “move” to Florida is pretty strong.  Minnesota has one of the highest tax burdens for more affluent residents in the country. The state has a fairly long tradition of providing lots of help to those without means, payed for by those with more resources and the ability to pay.

It’s a problem for snow birds, however. As they wait to take their annual trip south they’re reading about Florida’s mountainous spike in COVID-19 cases and, now deaths. What to do? The story about Florida below, from my favorite publication the Conversation, explains how it is Florida got into this “leadership” position on doing the Coronavirus wrong.
