News Happens So Fast Nowadays That We Have to Jam Some Things Together

Contributor: Wy Spano
  • The Lincoln Project, which  produces the great anti-Trump ads we've shown before, is having a National Virtual Town Hall on July 30, at 7pm Minnesota time. Should be fun.  You get to ask questions (if one of the other thousands of participants doesn't beat you to the punch). The Lincoln Project is mostly Republicans who don't like Trump. And their ads are hilarious.
  • The "experts" (i.e., public health docs and analysts) began predicting, a few weeks ago, that Minnesota would see a big jump in hospital beds being used by COVID-19 cases around the end of July; the state had begun opening more businesses but, more critically, people just weren't wearing masks. On July 28, 37 beds were added, in what may have been the biggest hospital bed gain in MN since the coronavirus crisis started. A big jump in hospital bed usage is expected to soon lead to a big increase in the number of deaths.
  • Surprise! When Republican Senators released their Edition II coronavirus stimulus bill, even the Majority Leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell, was surprised to find $1.75 billion for a new FBI Headquarters in the bill. Turns out a few years back everyone had sort of agreed to take the FBI complex out of Washington, move it to the suburbs, and develop the then empty land. AND that development, the Trump company deduced, could have a hotel in it which would compete with the Trump International Hotel, just a block away. Wojila, $1.75 billion appears in the Republican bill.
